Kate O’Reilly gets her aura read and is impressed with the results.

WE OFTEN talk about somebody being in a black mood, seeing red green with envy. Many people believe that even though we don't see it, what evident from early cave drawings surrounded by halo type shapes. Later, in religious paintings, saints and holy people were also often depicted with halos. It has been suggested that artists could see light emanating from around their sitters.

The theory is that every living thing, whether human, animal or plant, led by an
electromagnetic field represented by a band of colours called an aura, which reflects the person and their current emotional state, thoughts, desires and anxieties.

Analysis can pinpoint areas in our health and wellbeing that we need to address and suggest how we need to use our energy in a more positive way. While the colours are not usually visible to the naked eye – though some clairvoyants and healers can see them naturally and it is possible to train the eye to see them — modem technology, in the form of an aura camera, allows a representation of this electromagnetic field to be captured on Polaroid film.

Armed with three such aura energy photographs, one for each of the past three years, I asked Angela Tarry for a colour reading.

What she told me was as accurate as any other form of reading I have had and very good at pinpointing how I was feeling at the time of each photograph.

"The density of the colour and where it appears around the head determines how the person is feeling, how they are using their energy and their emotional, spiritual and physical wellbeing," explained Angela, a psychotherapist and colour healer who has been using the camera for the past seven years.

While we all possess a complete rainbow of colours within our aura, usually one or two are dominant and mine are green -symbolising a balanced, down-to-earth and caring nature, apparently -and blue, the colour of communication, hardly surprising for someone who makes her living from words.

In 1998, overlying these colours were turquoise and yellow which Angela said represented how I was using my emotional and intellectual energy at the time. Yellow signifies knowledge through intellect so I was thinking a lot about my career and other areas of my life. Turquoise meant I was starting to look at alternative forms of healing and spiritual development. (This was the first time I had been to a mind/body/spirit fair to investigate the different therapies available and their uses.)

A lot happened in 1999 - new job, new house, getting married -and when I got the second photograph taken towards the end of the year I was feeling pretty tired, which Angela picked up on.

"You've still got the blue and the green but the yellow has intensified. What's happened is that there's lots of thought going on, most of your energy is right in your head and when it's yellow and chat intense it can be quite negative. That strong white over the top is a sign of stress. You were probably feeling very tired at that time, completely zapped."

Things have calmed down since then and this year's photograph showed an aura that was a lot more vibrant, according to Angela. However, I'm apparently still inclined to keep those stress levels high (an occupational hazard I suppose). She also picked up on some food intolerances, which 1 have been having trouble with lately.

What was interesting was the new colour orange — which signifies activity and thought, creativity and new beginnings. A different direction in my career, Angela suggested. Who knows?
